CRANBERRY – Joined by 15 of his House Republican colleagues from southwestern Pennsylvania, Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) has signed on to the letter below urging Gov. Tom Wolf to reconsider ordering regional bars and restaurants to shut down for the next several weeks:

“Dear Governor Wolf:

“It is our understanding that your administration may soon order that restaurants and bars located in the
southwestern region cease serving patrons indoors, citing an increase of new COVID-19 cases over the
last few weeks.

“We urge you to reconsider this action immediately.

“Throughout this time, many of our colleagues and staff have sought information to learn if the current
case count applies to serology or nasal tests. We consider this important, now understanding that
serology tests determine antibodies in individuals who may have been sick months ago.

“We question if the case counts made public in Pennsylvania are combined of both variables. However,
the Department of Health does not appear to differentiate these results even in their own records.
Please see the attached constituent communication that was provided to a House member that
demonstrates a first-hand account of this information.

“Gov. Wolf the economic destruction related to your emergency declaration and subsequent orders
have been unnecessarily excessive. Worse yet, because the Department does not seem to differentiate
the number of people who tested positive for antibodies versus those who are currently infected, we
argue that your orders have been sustained with poor statistics and half-truths. Furthermore, it is
unfathomable and irresponsible to extend your restrictions any further while using such shoddy

“Instead, we urge you to focus your efforts on assisting the thousands of Pennsylvania residents that are
still encountering delays with their unemployment claims.

“Please do not hesitate to contact us directly to further discuss this important matter.”
