Metcalfe Calls Corbett’s No New Tax Budget Proposal Workable Framework to Get Government Out Of Taxpayers’ Pockets

Pennsylvania House State Government Committee Chairman, State Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) issued the following statement today regarding Governor Tom Corbett’s 2011-2012 state budget proposal:

“After 12 straight years of having no choice but to vote against every fiscally irresponsible state budget signed into law, I am optimistic that the budget proposal put forth by Governor Tom Corbett today, which contains no new taxes and nearly $1 billion in spending reductions, provides an excellent working framework to begin the process of getting state government off our backs and out of our pockets.

“Pennsylvania currently faces the monumental task of rolling back the multi-billion dollar Rendell budget deficit, huge government pension liabilities across the Commonwealth and making much needed core infrastructure improvements, in spite of the unjustifiable taxpayer subsidization of mass transit.

“The Department of Public Welfare should be among the first targets for spending reductions, since during the past eight years, they were without question the leading beneficiary of the Rendell administration’s fraud-ridden, close your eyes and authorize spending excesses—ballooning from $6 billion a year before Fast Eddie to more than $10 billion annually after this limousine-speeding liberal took his Road to Serfdom back to Philadelphia.

“Another area of spending that must be eliminated is the hundreds of millions of dollars in vote-swaying discretionary funding, “walking around money” or WAMs made available to the governor, Legislature and politically-connected special interests.

“In the coming months, I look forward to working with the Corbett administration to deliver even more substantial taxpayers’ first spending reductions, including making Pennsylvania a Right-To-Work state by ending compulsory unionism through my Freedom of Employment Act; protecting every Pennsylvania student’s,  parent’s, teacher’s and taxpayer’s right to an uninterrupted STRIKE-FREE education by banning militant teacher strikes; and eliminating the no-less-than $1.4 billion annually in increased taxpayer costs directly associated with Pennsylvania’s illegal alien invasion through the National Security Begins at Home legislative package.”
