State Government Committee to Consider Measures to Keep Tuition Affordable

WHAT: House State Government Committee Majority Chairman Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) will convene a public hearing focusing on Representative Brad Roae’s (R-Crawford) package of legislation to keep State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) tuition affordable: making the payment of student activity fees voluntary (House Bill 2442); prohibiting free or reduced tuition for family members of PASSHE employees (House Bill 2443); placing a moratorium on non-emergency construction and improvement projects (House Bill 2444); and prohibiting paid sabbaticals for PASSHE professors (House Bill 2446).

WHO: Testifiers will include: Nathan Benefield, Commonwealth
Foundation; Dr. John Cavanaugh, PASSHE; Kenneth Mash,
Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties;
and Jonathan Robe, Center for College Affordability and Productivity.
