A national leftist organization called votevets.org, a front group for George Soros/MoveOn.org, has launched a radio attack ad campaign in our region on behalf of a group called Operation Free, calling for my resignation.
At the age of 17, I raised my hand and swore to protect our Constitution as I was sworn into the U.S. Army. Every elected official from local government officials to state legislators to the President of the United States swears a similar oath. My service and the service of every man and woman in our military forces were not, and are not, just to protect our homes or our families, but to protect a way of life. Our U.S. Constitution is the foundational document of the American way of life, affirming our God given, not government given, liberties.
If someone advocates for our government to pass laws, make regulatory changes in policy or enter into treaties that violate our Constitution, and they have taken an oath to uphold and protect that same document, then they are traitors to that oath.
During a debate in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, I asked one of my colleagues if he had read the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and Article 1 Section 21 of our Pennsylvania Constitution. He answered, “NO.”
I was shocked by his answer and inquired further. He asked me to repeat my question. The second time he answered, he again confirmed that he had not read those sections of the constitutions. He had served in the legislature for many years and had been sworn into office more than a few times. He had not read the constitutions that he swore to protect.
I do not believe that he is the exception among elected officials. After serving in the legislature and battling in the political arena for more than a decade, I believe that many elected officials do not care what the constitutions say. They view the constitutions as obstacles between them and their objective of controlling more of our lives and taking more of our money.
The national sponsors of the ad are attacking me because my comments have exposed that Operation Free’s radical leftist agenda has absolutely nothing to do with America’s national security, energy independence or protecting our environment, but is a direct attack on our Constitution.
The domestic cap-and-tax policies proposed at the federal level violate at the very least the 10th amendment, our states’ rights. The Copenhagen (cap-and-tax) treaty to be considered in December 2009 would violate our U.S Constitution and our state constitutions.
All of these proposals seek to redistribute wealth. The United Nations website reads, “However there is lack of clarity on two issues that are key to success on Copenhagen; rich nation emission reduction targets and financial support for change action in developing countries.” Of course the U.N. expects American taxpayers to foot a substantial amount of the bill for other nations; it is a global redistribution of wealth scheme.
The socialized healthcare plan currently being debated by Congress would also violate our constitutions. I have cosponsored legislation that, if adopted, would provide that “Neither the Governor nor the Department of Health, the Department of Public Welfare or any other Commonwealth agency, shall participate in the compliance with any Federal law, regulation or policy that would compromise the freedom of choice in health care of any resident of this Commonwealth.”
I will continue the fight to protect the constitutions of our state and nation and the liberties that they affirm.
