Voter ID

Majority Chairman of the House State Government Committee, Representative Daryl Metcalfe, is joined by Representative Jerry Knowles (R-Berks/Schuylkill) and Secretary of the Commonwealth Carol Aichele for the bill signing.

On March 14, 2012, Governor Tom Corbett signed the Pennsylvania Voter Identification Protection Act (House Bill 934) into law. This legislation will require Pennsylvania voters to show valid photo identification each and every time they go to cast a ballot.

“One fraudulently cast voter is one too many,” said Majority Chairman Metcalfe during debate on House Bill 934.

A January poll conducted by Terry Madonna Opinion Research found that 87 percent of Pennsylvania voters “strongly or somewhat favor a law requiring voters to show a driver's license or state-issued ID before voting.”
